Drumroll please...

Hello there! This feels like the first day of class during a new semester. I must say I have had my fair share of ice breakers, but this may be the most nerve wracking one.

Why you may ask? Let me provide some context.

I am currently a twenty one year old college student sitting in her childhood bedroom, introducing herself to a sea of cellphones, computers and tablets that are currently reading this. With ongoing issues with COVID-19, I have been spending most of my time in my hometown. Since all of my internship plans were uprooted, I had to do something to make my quarantine just a little more exciting. Let's just say, the walls are starting to laugh at my jokes.

So I decided to start blogging. Cliche right?

Well...not necessarily.

As a public relations major, the first word you are taught as an infant practitioner is "brand". Starbucks is a brand, Nike is a brand, Target is a brand. But these companies also HAVE a brand. The steps they take that ultimately reflect on the public's perception of the company as an entity.

With that being said, YOU are also a brand. You have a brand. I have a brand. So that's why I am here today. As a PR practitioner, it's one thing to research, interview and analyze a client. Now, think of yourself as the client. The ultimate task is deciding how YOU want to present yourself to others. Now put it on paper. That's where the challenge starts.

My quarantine activity is my brand.

Hi! My name is Emily Phillips. My friends call me E-Phil. My parents call me Punky Bruster. My brother calls me Annoying. But you can just call me Emily!

I am a fourth-year student at The University of Georgia pursuing a degree in *shocker* public relations with a minor in fashion merchandising.

Rather than putting you all through the standard, cookie cutter reiteration of what you can find in all of my professional information, I thought I would talk about all of the things you cannot find on my resume. (Side note: If you still wanted to look at my resume, that's cool, too. Head to the main menu!)

For starters, I love to sing. In the car, in the shower, at work, while doing random tasks. Sometimes, I just randomly break out singing any song that is currently stuck in my head. The catch is I am not good at it -- at all. I find this representative of who I am as a person and as a professional. Even though I am bad at it, I have no problem doing it because I want to do it, simple as that.

I am comfortable taking pride in the things that I do.

I like to push the boundaries for myself and others in order to make the most of things. I do not back down from a challenge and can perform in a fast-paced, pressured setting to the best of my ability. But I am also very adaptable, so if the singing is a problem, I can keep it to a minimum.

Also, I thought I would throw in here that I love to eat, especially new foods. I probably could eat nachos or sushi every single day of my life. People usually are very surprised by this fact, since I am the size of a normal-sized person's pinky finger. Rest assured, hand me two McDonald's cheeseburgers and a medium fry, and I promise you it will be gone by the time you finish reading this blog post. You could say that I like to prove others wrong. I like to not just meet, but exceed the expectations that others have for me. This brings me to my last point.

I love to be wrong. I am not fearful of criticism or pointers. Ever since I was little, I was told by teachers, coaches, supervisors that I am very receptive to feedback -- and it's one of my biggest strengths. I know I am not perfect, so as a human being, it is my responsibility to educate myself.

Donny Miller once said "In the age of information, ignorance is a choice."

There is always room for improvement, which is why I am always open to feedback. If I come across something that could potentially help me succeed, why wouldn't I utilize it?

I think that about covers it. As you can probably tell by now, I like to talk. Since we're friends now, I would love to chat. It can be about anything. The weather, what you are currently watching on Netflix, your favorite song at the moment. Don't be a stranger and shoot me an email!

With that being said, signing off for now! I have to go do the dishes (one of the perks of living with your parents temporarily!)
